About Gilbert Symes

Gilbert presents the 'Community Brass' programme, which goes out on Wednesdays between 8 and 9pm, with a repeat on Mondays from 8pm to 9pm. The show is a one hour long programme featuring brass band music, which is played on CD by bands from home and abroad, covering all sections of the banding world, including some of the country's top bands as well as the local bands.

Gilbert was born in Delph in the County of York in 1947, and started playing at the age of just 8 with the Delph Band, and later went on to perform with some of the best bands in the country, including Wingates and Yorkshire Imperial Metals. Gilbert always considers his time with the world famous Brighouse & Rastrick Band as the pinnacle and most enjoyable period of his banding career though.
